Baldwin Wallace University and Playhouse Square Collaboration
Each year, Baldwin Wallace University's Music Theatre program produces a collaborative production with Playhouse Square. The Arts Management & Entrepreneurship Class of 2018 has three groups of students working on the project. Our job is to produce the production, whether in marketing, education, or programming and operations. I was placed on the marketing team for the project and one of our first tasks was to create a logo for the show.
With collaboration of the other six members on the marketing team, we developed a concept for the artwork. tick, tick... BOOM! is an autobiographical musical written by Jonathan Larson, the creator of RENT. The musical focuses greatly on the time ticking away as it leads up to Jonathan's 30th birthday.
We decided we liked the visual concept of a bomb with a birthday candle. After taking the feed back of the entire group, I developed two initial pieces of artwork. One piece had more texture to it, and the other was simpler. |
After the initial meeting to discuss the artwork, the group agreed that the textured graphic would most likely not print well, and our advisor at Playhouse Square, Stephanie Keefer, felt that the logo lacked color.
Based on this feedback I developed a final draft of the artwork which is what the project is using. This artwork was then presented to the entire Arts Management & Entrepreneurship class as well as our advisors who agreed on the artwork. |
Our next task as a team was developing a playbill stuffer with information about tick, tick... BOOM! This stuffer would be used in the playbills for Playhouse Square's Key Bank Broadway Series production of RENT.
Through feedback of the marketing team as well as Stephanie Keefer, I developed a playbill stuffer to highlight the important facts about tick, tick... BOOM! |
